Day 34

Highlights from Last Week

Thursday: I found the gays! They are in Albany—who knew? It was super cute. I was just out postering, and felt the dulcet tones of Cher calling me toward Lark Street… My inner dialogue went thus, “A Planned Parenthood, that’s nice. Ooh, a tattoo parlor, that looks cute. Oh, it’s just for women. And the decorations are burlesque themed. Wow, everyone’s so friendly. I missed all-women environments. And this coffee shop is just adorable. Here’s a bar. Wow, it’s open at 4:00 in the afternoon? There are so many people here! Interesting. Oh I love this music! Oh… oh. I got it.” It was so nice, and everyone said how cute my hair was and it was like I was hooooooooooome!

Friday: A little bit of an adventure. I came in for what was supposed to be a half-day to do some last minute press for our dance party, and went on one of my favorite routes. It’s rull cute, and the towns are adorable. Oh, and I also get to steal little containers of salsa at one of the Mexican restaurants. On the way back, I was going up a very steep dirt road, and managed to pull down a side of the plastic bumper guard under the car. Being the resourceful young woman I am, I used an ingenious contraption of masking tape and rubber bands to hold it together for the drive back. I couldn’t drive more than 20 mph because the wind would catch it and pull it down again. People in Massachusetts do not like it when you drive 20 mph down one-lane highways in the mountains. They get very, very irritable. The interns and I went out to see “Valentine’s Day” when I got back though, and that was super cute.

Saturday: Another adventure. The museum was free, so we got knocked flat by the massive hordes of people streaming in. I was taping up signs in the morning, and narrowly avoided a “Devil Wears Prada” moment. I had taped the top and bottom of the signs, but not the corners. LITTLE DID I KNOW the museum director hates flappy corners. But since it’s a museum where people are nice, I went around and fixed everything before I had to be burned at the stake as an example to future tapers.

Sunday: I got my first official tour groupies! I started my tour with 10, and ended with nearly 30. Bam!

Now I’m gearing up for a week at Swelles, and am super excited to see all the shows. :D

Fun Thing Learned This Week: Cover letters that sound “sassy” in my head should be slept on before getting sent.
